Come join Giving+Sum at the historic Walker Theatre for a conversation with Dr. Tyrone Freeman about how Madam Walker shaped philanthropy as we know it. Arrive by 5:45 for a tour of the theater before our talk with Dr. Freeman. The man who gives the theater tours is in his 90s and spent a lot of time at the theater growing up. His mother was also one of the original beautician employees of Madam C.J. Walker.
Parking is free and is located to the west and north of the theatre itself, i.e. lots behind and beside the theatre.
Dr. Freeman is Assistant Professor of Philanthropic Studies and Director of Undergraduate Programs at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. Dr. Freeman has conducted groundbreaking research on Madam Walker, a centerpiece in the history of philanthropy in Indianapolis.
