What is Giving Sum?
Giving Sum is an organization comprised of professionals who want to make a high-impact in the community through volunteering, networking, and in granting out over $50,000 a year to innovative not-for-profit organizations that are making a difference.
How much are my dues?
Each member is required to contribute $500 annually. Membership contributions are used for the annual Giving Sum grant. Membership contributions can come from a matching program at work or a work sponsored program.
Couples may join together at $500 per couple. During the granting process, couples will only receive one vote per couple but each individual may participate fully in all other areas of Giving Sum. As per the spirit of Giving Sum, a couple is defined as two people in a romantic relationship.
Is my contribution tax deductible?
Yes. Giving Sum is a 501(c)(3) charitable not-for-profit organization. All contributions to Giving Sum are fully tax deductible to the extent of the law.
How much of my membership contribution goes to the grant and how much goes to administrative expenses?
100% of memberships contributions are allocated toward the annual Giving Sum grant. All administrative expenses are covered by various donations and sponsors of Giving Sum.
Who can participate in Giving Sum?
Giving Sum is open to anyone who wants to be engaged in philanthropy and the community. Men and women of any age are encouraged to step forth and be a part of Giving Sum. We want to help strengthen the commitment of people who are already engaged and open doors for those who are new to the world of philanthropy and civic engagement.
How long is membership?
Your $500 membership contributino will cover one full year in Giving Sum. You will receive notification from Giving Sum upon your membership coming to an end for renewal.
What if I can't afford $500?
$500 is a major commitment. Giving Sum understands that not everyone can allocate this kind of money to philanthropy. If you feel like you cannot allocate $500 to be part of Giving Sum, we would encourage you to ask for support from your friends, family, co-workers or employeer. You might be amazed at how many people will help sponsor you if you express to them why you would like to get engaged in positive change in Indianapolis!
How does Giving Sum differ from organizations like Impact 100?
Impact 100 is a great womens-only giving circle with annual membership dues of $1,000. Giving Sum is open to men and women and concentrates on getting members to be involved with their time, talents and treasure.
